Tournaments
NeatQueue can run a full tournament for you: players sign up with a button, the bot seeds a bracket, creates each match as a normal NeatQueue match, and advances the bracket when results come in. Brackets are tracked by NeatQueue itself, so you don't need a Challonge account, and everyone can follow along live on the website.
Formats
- Single elimination (optionally with a third-place match)
- Double elimination
- Round robin
- Swiss
Matches can be best-of-N. Teams are seeded by MMR from the tournament's name, which also acts as the stats store for seeding.
Running a tournament in Discord
- In the channel you want to use, run
/tournament create. Set the maximum number of participants, the format, and the team size (you can skip team size if the channel already has a queue). See/tournament createfor every option. - NeatQueue posts a signup message with Join and Leave buttons. Players sign up (as a team, if the team size is above 1).
- When the tournament fills, it starts automatically (turn this off with
auto_start_on_fill), or you can start it yourself with/tournament start. At least 2 participants are needed. - As the bracket progresses, NeatQueue creates the queue matches for you. Players play them like any other match, and the result moves the bracket forward.
- When the final is done, the winner is announced and any prize pool is paid out.
Useful /tournament create options:
best_ofandhold_third_place_matchcontrol match length and the third-place game.forfeit_timer_secsets how long players have to join their match before forfeiting.entry_pricecharges points to join, andpayout_feetakes a percentage of the pool before it's paid to the winners.auto_create_matcheslets the bot start matches as they become ready. Turn it off to start them manually with/tournament startmatches.auto_create_new_tournamentmakes a fresh tournament when this one starts or ends (the default is on completion), which is handy for recurring events.detailsadds extra text to the signup message.
The tournament runs in that channel's queue, so the channel's original queue settings are restored when the tournament ends or is deleted.
Captain draft
With captain_draft: True, players join solo instead of as pre-made teams. Once enough players have joined, the usual /captains draft runs and captains pick their teams. Each team is named after its captain and seeded into the bracket.
A captain draft needs at least 2 teams, a team size of at least 2, and no more than 125 players in total (teams times team size). It can't be combined with use_challonge.
Managing a tournament

On the website
Every tournament has a live bracket page at https://neatqueue.com/t/<url>, where <url> is the tournament's URL (you can choose it with the url option). Public tournaments are also listed at https://neatqueue.com/tournaments, and each one can be embedded on another site.
Organizers can manage a tournament from its Manage page: reporting and resetting matches, seeding, adding or substituting participants, check-in, scheduling, and more.
Website-hosted tournaments
You don't need Discord to create a tournament. Any signed-in user can create one at https://neatqueue.com/tournaments/new, with 2 to 512 participants. These run purely on the website, with results reported by organizers.
To have a website tournament play out through a queue, use /tournament attach in a queue channel. Only the tournament's owner or organizers can attach it, and only before it has started. After that the bot creates the matches, pings players and pays out prizes just like a tournament created in Discord.
Challonge
Native tournaments are the default. If you already have a Challonge bracket, you can:
- Move it over with
/tournament import, which copies the participants and finished matches into a pending NeatQueue tournament. This uses the Challonge account linked with/tournament account. - Keep running a new tournament on Challonge with
use_challonge: Trueon/tournament create. This needs a linked Challonge account, and some features (such as captain draft and best-of) are native only.
